NBA 2K22 Release Date, Gameplay, Ratings and Every Features You Want To Know

After almost a year of waiting, the new NBA 2K video game is finally here. Back in June, the developers at Visual Concepts announced that they would be taking things back to basics with this year’s entry in the long-running series. Considering how bloated recent entries had become with so many superfluous modes and features, that was certainly music to basketball fans’ ears. This will mark as the first time in three years that we won’t see an NBA 2K holiday edition. Instead, 2K has decided to release the standard edition earlier than usual, which means all those who were playing last year’s version should now be able to download and play NBA 2K22 from September 7 onwards. Here’s everything you need to know about it. Read more:nba 2k22 release date

What’s New In NBA 2K22?

First and foremost, let’s talk about what’s not new. There are no story or campaign modes this time around, which means there will be no MyCAREER or MyGM to be found anywhere in the game. What we do have, though, is a brand-new MyTEAM system that will let you create and run your own fantasy basketball team. And yes, you can still take your squad online and compete against other people. On the MyTEAM front, players will be able to build their fantasy line-ups by opening virtual cards that you’ll be able to earn through playing the game and/or buying them with real money. You can then put the cards together to create a team that has one of the NBA’s best players at every position. If you manage to assemble a strong enough team, you’ll be able to take on other users in online tournaments and win some real prizes.

Ratings Refresh: Which Players Are Nerfed Or Buffed?

Before we move on to anything else, let’s talk about the ratings refresh that happened before the release of the game. Due to the fact that 2K18’s postseason ratings were still being calculated and compiled while the game was being developed, the developers decided to give each player a “snapshot” rating based on their performance during the 2017 NBA regular season. That meant, for example, that LeBron James’s overall rating was still 99 despite the fact that he ended the year with a 31-points-per-game average. Now that the postseason is over and the numbers for 2018 have been calculated, we can see that some of the league’s biggest stars have taken a hit. Chris Paul, for example, went from a 91 in 2K18 to an 88 in 2K19. In the other direction, there are players who have seen their ratings climb as high as a 97. So, with that out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the other new features and gameplay improvements that we can expect to see in NBA 2K22.

Gameplay Improvements

NBA 2K22 promises to be one of the most polished entries in the series to date, with the developers promising the smoothest gameplay since the first game in the franchise. Now, some of you may be wondering how exactly one game can feel smoother than another when the two share pretty much the same controls. Well, that’s because Visual Concepts has completely revamped the controls system for this year’s game. There are now three different control options to choose from, including the Classic scheme that lets you use the same button layout you’ve been using for years. The other two schemes, called Touch and Newbreed, are completely new and will be easier to grasp for first-time players. Which scheme you choose to play with will depend on your playing style. If you’re a more methodical player who likes to slow the game down, then Classic might be a better option for you. If, on the other hand, you like to push the pace and have a more aggressive style, then Newbreed is the go-to scheme for you.

On August 30, NBA 2K22 released a one-minute, 35-second gameplay trailer. It’s low on real upgrades, focusing instead on new animations, face likenesses, and massive dunks — albeit it all looks amazing. You may view it right now:

Virtual Currency And Microtransactions

Speaking of ways to get ahead in the game, there are a few new ways to earn coins in NBA 2K22. You can still engage in multiplayer matches and win coins that way, but the developers have also added daily challenges that will let you earn bonus coins if you manage to beat them. Meanwhile, the new Marketplace section is where you can spend your virtual coins to buy cosmetic items like special animations and custom jerseys. There are a bunch of items to choose from, but the main thing you’ll want to keep an eye on is the price of each item. That’s because the more expensive the item, the better the quality. So, for example, you can buy a simple jersey for as little as 400 coins, but the one with the best-looking stats will set you back around 9,000 coins.

We’ve come to the end of our article, and while there’s still more to be said, we’ve covered all the important features of the new game. So, now it’s time to make your decision – will this be the year you finally join the 2K fraternity? Or are you happy to keep playing the same game you’ve been playing for the past few years? We can’t tell you what to do, but we can say that NBA 2K22 is shaping up to be the best game in the series yet.
